LENA, Ill. — The South Beloit baseball team looked ready to play the part of spoiler againstLena-Winslow after it took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning inWednesday’s IHSA 1A regional semifinal.

But the Panthers showed why they’re seeded No. 2 and they responded with two runs in the bottom half and later poured on 13 runs in the fourth to knock the No. 10 SoBos out of the postseason with a 16-1 victory in four innings.

Richard Carlson hit a one-out double in the first and Jonah Martinez followed him up by lacing an RBI double into right field. But those two hits were all South Beloit (6-15) could muster as Luke Madigan and Maverick Cass combined for four innings with seven strikeouts.

Lena-Winslow (17-6) outhit the SoBos 9-2 and took advantage of five errors. Miles Mahon smacked both a two-run double and three-run triple in the fourth as he finished 2-for-4 with five RBI.

    • EAST TROY 4, BELOIT TURNER 3: A bases-loaded walk by Noah Pfundheller in the seventh wasn’t enough as a strikeout ended the Trojans’ rally in RVC crossover play on Wednesday.

Trailing 4-2, Bryaden Ward reached on an error and, one out later, Zack Ries drew a walk and Fernando Tillery was hit by a pitch to load the bases. But Turner couldn’t complete the comeback.
