Headlines in History 1905: Fire at Notre Dame - Flames damage seminary of big university

June 30, 1905: “Flames, which for a time recalled vividly the big fire at Notre Dame university in April, 1879, broke out this morning in the seminary of the big university about 8:45 o’clock. When discovered the upper portion of the building was all ablaze and threatened not only the total destruction of the building, but the other structures as well.” — The South Bend Tribune
July 1, 1912: “Plans for the new mausoleum to be erected in Riverview cemetery were accepted to-day at a meeting of the St. Joseph County Mausoleum association. Bids have been asked and will be opened on July 15. Ernest W. Young is the architect. The structure will be of concrete construction, and the interior will be finished in marble and granite.” — The South Bend Tribune
July 2, 1924: “Police have been asked by west side merchants to search for a man who has been selling 12 dozen of eggs in a 30 dozen egg crate for a complete crate. Several grocers have been victimized in the last few days.” — The South Bend Tribune
July 3, 1933: “In the drawing room looking out on the rolling green expanse of his Twyckenham estate simple but impressive funeral services — simple in accordance with his last wishes — were held this afternoon for Albert Russel Erskine. — The South Bend Tribune

July 5, 1950: “The American Red Cross swimming and life saving program was scheduled to be launched this afternoon at Eagle lake, near Edwardsburg, Mich. Gil Burdick, Chairman of water safety for St. Joseph county, is in charge of arrangements. A similar program will be started at Diamond lake, near Cassopolis, Mich., next Wednesday and at Lake of the Woods, near Lakeville, this county, on July 12.” — The South Bend Tribune
July 6, 1962: “Two illustrated books which should furnish readers with ideal summer browsing are among the new volumes added recently to the Mishawaka Public Library, according to Harley O. Spencer, librarian. The picture books are “Birds of the World,” by Oliver L. Austin Jr., and “The Ship: An Illustrated History,” by Bjorn Landstrom. The 316-page volume about bird life around the world was purchased by the staff of the 1962-63 Miskodeed at Mishawaka High School as a memorial to Mrs. Ella Pine Miller, faculty advisor to the students working on the yearbook.” — The South Bend Tribune
