The St. Joseph County Community Corrections Advisory Board has six open positions, and county officials are seeking applications for them by July 16.

The advisory board, with more than 20 members when full, develops and oversees alternatives to incarceration that both hold people accountable for crimes and also prepare them to be productive members of society.

That includes the DuComb Center, the county's community-based work-release residential correctional facility, among other programs. Carl Baxmeyer, president of the county commissioners, said many of the positions opened up after board members' terms expired at the end of last year.

St. Joseph County commissioners recently announced that they’ll accept applications to the board until July 16.

The six open positions must be filled by one educational administrator, two lay persons, one representative of a private correctional agency and one juvenile probation officer. Also, one of the positions must be filled by either a mental health administrator or, if none is available in the county, one psychiatrist, psychologist or physician.

Those who are interested can apply by sending their résumé or letter of interest to the St. Joseph County Commissioners, County-City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 722, South Bend, IN 46601. Or email it to their executive assistant, Jane Schlicter, at jschlichter@sjcindiana.com.
