    Newsstand: Notre Dame WR Jayden Harrison named to Paul Hornung Award watch list

    On Thursday, Notre Dame graduate student wide receiver Jayden Harrison earned a spot on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List. He was one of 48 players recognized.

    The Paul Hornung Award , which the Louisville Sports Commission awards, is given annually to the most versatile player in college football. Despite this year being Harrison’s first in South Bend, he matches the criteria.

    Before transferring to Notre Dame this offseason, Harrison was a Walter Camp, FWAA and 247Sports.com first-team All-America kick returner. He averaged 30.7 yards on 23 total returns, which ranked second in the FBS.

    Harrison also made an impact in the Thundering Herd pass game. He had 28 receptions for 410 yards and 1 touchdown in 2023.

    The award’s namesake, Paul Hornung , played football for Notre Dame from 1954-56. He was a consensus All-American in 1955 and the Heisman Trophy winner in 1956.

    Also on Thursday, Irish linebacker Jack Kiser was named to the Wuerffel Tro phy watch list. The Wuerffel Trophy is college football’s premier award for community service which recognizes college football athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society.

    Irish freshman cornerback Leonard Moore had an interception during Thursday’s practice.

    Irish four-star running back commit Justin Thurman received his full-ride scholarship offer on Thursday. Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit’s Thurman is the No. 383 overall player, No. 31 running back nationally and No. 54 prospect in Florida in the 2025 class.

    “I’m hopeful that Kris Mitchell can continue to kind of grow into that role. I think KK Smith is a very talented young man who just has to continue to practice it and put it on tape every day. But I think there’s a couple of guys that we have that can play that role. I think it’s going to be a little bit by committee.”

    — Irish offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock on which Notre Dame receiver can provide the most speed like Will Fuller back in the day. Denbrock spoke to reporters on Thursday.
