ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — The St. Joseph Superior Court 1 Criminal Division vacancy has been filled by former St. Joseph County Chief Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Fronk.

The position became available when Judge Cristal Brisco was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana on January 26, 2024. Through an application process , five candidates were selected and considered to be nominees of "high caliber" and a "credit to the Indiana judiciary," Geoffrey Slaughter, Chairman of the St. Joseph County Judicial Nominating Commission, said in a letter to Gov. Eric Holcomb.

On June 28, Holcomb appointed Fronk. a native of Sioux City, Iowa. Fronk has served as a lead prosecutor on homicide cases and team leader of the homicide staff, prosecuting approximately 100 homicide cases, since moving to St. Joseph County in 2015, Slaughter said.

According to a press release from Holcomb's office, Fronk will be sworn in at date to be determined.
