Democrat Ed Fisher files to challenge Derek Dieter in St. Joseph County Surveyor race

Ed Fisher of South Bend is running as a Democrat for St. Joseph County surveyor, ensuring that there will be a race this fall against Republican Derek Dieter.

Fisher said he is a licensed surveyor who has owned and operated Fisher Land Surveying Services for 35 years. He said he’s done “thousands” of private, commercial and municipal surveys and given several presentations to local government councils.

He said it’s “crucial” to have a licensed surveyor in office. It isn’t required. Neither the current surveyor, Democrat Robert Kruszynski, nor Dieter are licensed. But Dieter sits on the county’s Drainage Board and recently pledged to knock on doors for votes in all of the county’s precincts.

Dieter is finishing out his term as county commissioner.

The Tribune inadvertently didn’t include Fisher in a recent story about three other candidates who likewise have filed to run for election to St. Joseph County offices that otherwise would have gone uncontested this fall.
