SOUTH BEND — The South Bend Police Department is asking for help finding 19-year-old Derrick Myles, who has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Riley High School student Alyyus Enoexpettiford ; Myles also faces a firearm enhancement charge.

In a joint press conference, the South Bend Police Department and the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office addressed the homicide investigation, revealing that Enoexpettiford died from a gunshot wound to the head.

South Bend Police were called to the 500 block of East Victoria Street around 5:45 p.m. on June 14, on a report of shots fired . Enoexpettiford was found suffering in a back yard from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital and died from his injuries.

After speaking with witnesses, a South Bend detective said in court documents that Enoexpettiford was with a group of people in the backyard of a residence when Myles approached them and accused some people in the group of damaging his relative's home. According to prosecutors, witnesses told officers that Myles argued with Enoexpettiford, took out a handgun, fired once and ran away.

"We've exhausted our ability to be able to locate him without the general public's help," Prosecuting Attorney Kenneth Cotter said at the Aug. 22 joint press conference.

Cotter urged anyone with information regarding Myles' location to call 911, call the police department's non-emergence line at (574) 235-9201 or contact Michiana Crime Stoppers to place an anonymous tip at (574) 288-STOP.
