SOUTH BEND — Repairs on the East Bank Trail over the Leeper Avenue Bridge are set to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and the trail will be closed to traffic while the crews are completing the work.

The city originally announced repairs would begin Sept. 30, but the contractor changed the start date to Oct. 2 on Friday afternoon.

According to the City Board of Public Works , a part of Leeper Avenue also will be closed between North Shore Drive and Napoleon Street while the work is being done. Motorists are asked to use Niles Avenue as a detour route.

The repairs will include replacement of the bridge decking with concrete and new fencing.
