MISHAWAKA — Mishawaka police were called to John Young Middle School on Tuesday, Oct. 22, after a student made an online threat and pulled out a knife at the school.

According to an email sent from the Mishawaka Police Department, officers were called to the school around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A 13-year-old female student reportedly made "an online threat to hurt people at the school," the email said; she was taken to the principal's office when she arrived at the school.

While in the principal's office, she pulled out a knife, the email said.

Police took her into custody without incident, and nobody at the school was injured.

According to Sgt. Steven Headley, the department's public information officer, the threat was made either Monday or Tuesday morning via a school-wide messaging system, which is how school administrators found it. He said the threat was "vague" and not targeting any student or teacher specifically.

The student is currently detained at the Juvenile Justice Center, and Headley said while he was not able to share the full charges she faces, he said she will probably face a misdemeanor of possession of a knife on school property. According to the Indiana Code , this a Class B misdemeanor.

These schools operate like businesses with students being their customers. They put up with way too much bullshit just for a few thousand dollars. So stupid. Get rid of the students bullying this young lady and shit like this won’t happen. Now, reap what you sow and watch your enrollment fall off the cliff.
