Women-owned small business finds niche amid Maine's rapidly-growing kelp farming industry
KITTERY, Maine — A women-owned business in Kittery has found their niche to use kelp in skincare amid the industry's rapid growth in Maine. Cold Current Kelp was founded in 2021 by co-owners Inga Potter and Krista Rosen after they wanted to dip their toes into the kelp farming business.
Reflecting on what America means, two Maine students among national essay award winners
Two Maine students were among 150 winners across the country of a nationwide essay contest reflecting on what America means to them. The two students from Acton and Oxford were among 75 second-place winners of “America’s Field Trip,” a national competition encouraging students to reflect on what America means to them. Each second-place winner wins a $500 cash prize, while first-place awardees receive special behind-the-scenes experiences at American historical or cultural sites, such as the Statue of Liberty in New York City, or the Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

The Boothbay 36ers completed their regular season schedule July 16 with a 9-6 loss to the first-place Franklin Flyers at Sherman Field. The 36ers finished with a 5-8-1 record in American Legion play and now wait to learn about their post-season eligibility. Boothbay currently holds the final Maine Southern Zone playoff spot, but a Dirigo Sturgeon victory later this week over Messalonskee could result in a one-game playoff. “We hold that final spot, but a Dirigo win could force a play-in.
