As need for dementia specialists grows, one rural clinic takes a hybrid approach
Even before it opened in Presque Isle in March, the Aroostook Memory Center had 68 referrals. Primary care physicians across the rural county had patients they suspected were experiencing some form of cognitive decline and were seeking additional support from dementia specialists. Since launching, the program has received seven or eight new patients a week.

Tiger Colby Wins Late Model 75 at Wiscasset Speedway
With other local short tracks taking the weekend off, Wiscasset Speedway saw an increased number of drivers in the pits and fans in the stands on Saturday as they hosted their Group 2 divisions. The program, which was sponsored by Mainely Karting, also included an extended 75-lap race for the Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Models and a 20-lap exhibition race for LST Motorsports Park’s Champ Karts.

“Our mission is to get people to read more, to promote literacy and any way we can do that efficiently, we welcome,” said Michael Pollard of Friends of the Library (Friends) Aug. 12, in a gathering of volunteers, directors and board members. Friends is best known for operating the used bookstore in the historic Hyde House beside Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library (BHML), but the group’s reach is well beyond literacy advocacy.
