The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) recently launched a multimodal transportation survey to gather public input on the Momentum 2050 statewide plan for the future of South Carolina’s transportation network.

“This is a way for South Carolinians to get involved in the way we move people and goods across the state,” Justin Powell, South Carolina secretary of transportation, said. “We want to hear from you on the future of transportation in South Carolina.”

The plan evaluates the status of the state’s transportation system, examining what’s changing, examining the best way to move people and goods across the state, and determining how SCDOT will move forward over the next 25 years. It develops the vision and goals for the future of transportation in South Carolina but does not select specific projects or decide where projects will be built.

SCDOT updates the plan every five years. It considers changes that affect how people and goods move throughout the state, such as shifts in communities, businesses, the environment, the population, safety, and travel behavior. The department aims to proactively plan for these changes so it can create a multimodal transportation system that maximizes safety, the environment, and the economy.

SCDOT maintains more than 41,000 miles of roads.
