MILWAUKEE, WI — Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) is getting to introduce himself in a new light on Wednesday night as former President Donald Trump 's Republican vice presidential pick. His prime-time speech at the Republican National Convention is his chance to appeal to a new group of voters.

The Washington Examiner spoke to Trump supporters and asked them what they thought of Trump's vice presidential pick. Some had no idea who he was.

"I know nothing about him. That night when they announced him, I didn't know zero about this man," one South Carolina delegate told the Washington Examiner.

He was not alone. Madeline Brame, mother of slain Army veteran Sgt. Hason Correa, who also gave her own emotional RNC speech , had only heard Vance's name before his nomination but believes the senator is a good pick from what she has learned.

"I like his age. I like that he is young, savvy, creative, and intelligent," Brame said. "You know, I think that he makes a good match."

Others who still do not know much about Vance said they trust Trump to make the best decision for the country.

"Trump has access to information I don't have," said Blake Mandell, a delegate from California. "I trusted him to make the right choice for the country. If he selects J.D. Vance, I'm 100% behind him."

"Trump knows who the deep state are," Anthony Agbay, a Pennsylvania delegate, said. "I think he won't make the same mistakes the second time around. And I think he's really done the vetting, and I think he's chosen a real true patriot."

Brame reminded people to do the research on candidates vying for votes, no matter how far down the ballot.

"Find out who these people are," Brame said. "It's not just the presidency, the vice president. I'm talking about all the elections , especially the local elections. Those are the most important elections to our community. Research these candidates."
