High-end luxury resorts are very nice for a romantic vacation, but sometimes scenic locales and deluxe amenities alone are not enough. Sometimes, you just want the chance to get away from everything and everyone else and enjoy a serene retreat with the sole company of your partner, free from stress or interruptions.

Have I just described the kind of retreat you're looking for? If so, let me introduce you to the Lakeview at Fontana, a private "contact-free" couple's resort in western North Carolina that comes with an especially romantic spa-like surprise.

Traveling couple Chelsea and Chris ( @followourcompass on TikTok) escaped to this peaceful, private couple's retreat, nestled in the verdant heart of the Great Smoky Mountains . Located near Bryson City in the western tip of North Carolina , the Lakeview at Fontana is located a little over an hour's drive west of Asheville, but you probably won't even want to leave this resort once you see what it has in store.

    A Quiet, Contact-Free Experience

One of the biggest perks that Chelsea noted is that the resort is "contact-free" As the Lakeview at Fontana's website explains, they offer self check-in and check-out for overnight stays, massage, and soaking cabana appointments - more on those in a minute. There are on-site hotel staff at all times who can be reached by text if needed, but for most things, you won't need to talk to anyone. You just step inside, take your place, and jump straight into relaxation.

    Soaking Cabana Tubs

Now for the resort's real piece de resistance: its soaking cabana tubs. If you really want to "soak" in the resort's gorgeous mountain and lake views, you can literally do so from the comfort of a deluxe soaking tub in a private hillside cabana a short walk away from the resort's main area. This experience is not exclusive to resort guests, either - people can just stop in for a soak on a day trip if they like!

Each " Treetop Soak " lasts 90 minutes, though guests are obligated to fill and empty their tubs within that time limit. The private cabanas are yours for those 90 minutes, so you can feel free to go au naturel (though guests can obviously wear bathing suits if that makes them feel more comfortable). These soaking seshs can be booked for single guests or for couples (their tubs are big enough for two), and each rental includes bath towels and bathrobes for use. There are four different types of soaking experiences with extra perks like bath salts , spa creams, essential oils , champagne, and more, ranging from $149- $199 per rental.

    Other Resort Amenities

Chelsea highlighted the Lakeview's signature "Treetop Soak" experience, but that's not the only perk this resort has to offer. According to their website, the Lakeview also has a deluxe massage studio, a 2.5-mile hiking trail, a relaxing deck overlooking Fontana Lake, and a fresh spring-fed pool that's open during the summertime. There's a cozy lounge with free coffee that's open 24/7, and there are two additional 24/7 stores on site; one selling bath and body products, the other stocked with food and drink. The stores are contact-free as well, and guests can either pay with Venmo or Paypal, or add their bill to their room's invoice.

For a property of this caliber, the starting rates for their rooms were surprisingly lenient. Their basic "cozy rooms" start at $199 a night, and their biggest accommodations, their 2-bedroom suites, start at $259 - oh, and did I mention there's no resort fees? Obviously, those rates can fluctuate quite a lot depending on seasonal demand, but for a luxury resort in the Smokies, those aren't bad starting prices! Select units are pet-friendly as well, in case your furry friend wants to join you on your peaceful mountain getaway.

Complete privacy, scenic soaking cabanas, and a deluxe mountain resort experience at reasonable rates? That sounds like my kind of scene. I may just need to plan an anniversary visit to the Lakeview at Fontana and experience it for myself!
