MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins will not have running back Raheem Mostert when they face off against the rival Buffalo Bills on Thursday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel ruled Mostert out Wednesday ahead of the team’s only practice of the week before the Thursday 8:15 p.m. kickoff against the AFC East foe .

Mostert has been dealing with a chest injury that was revealed on the team’s Monday injury report after the ailment was sustained early in Sunday’s 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to coach Mike McDaniel. He said the veteran running back was playing through the ailment as the game proceeded.

“His injury, not many people play with,” McDaniel said. “He showed his toughness. He just gave his teammates another example of how he’s built different.”

McDaniel said he believes it’s more likely it doesn’t keep him out multiple weeks, but he’s not ruling out the possibility of Mostert also having to miss the following week’s game at the Seattle Seahawks.

Meanwhile, the team is taking a wait-and-see approach with second-year running back De’Von Achane, who has been hampered with an ankle injury coming off Sunday’s win.

Achane, who is questionable against Buffalo after a limited practice Wednesday, appears bound to be a game-time decision for Thursday.

“We’ll see how it plays out,” McDaniel said.

The team listed Mostert and Achane as non-participants in injury report estimations Monday and Tuesday as the Dolphins didn’t practice Monday and held a walkthrough Tuesday.

With at least one running back out, rookie Jaylen Wright could be expected to make his NFL regular-season debut after he was a healthy inactive Sunday against Jacksonville. Miami should also use plenty of veteran tailback Jeff Wilson Jr., who had five carries for a team-leading 26 yards all in the fourth quarter Sunday.

“We have a bunch of guys that are very willing to do whatever is necessary and have complete skill sets,” offensive coordinator Frank Smith said Tuesday. “Whatever happens when we go to Thursday, we’ll have a plan to be able to get ourselves in the best position for competing on Thursday versus Buffalo.”

Wright said Tuesday he will take the same approach of preparedness each week.

“My main thing is, I just got to be ready for that time,” he said. “Whenever that time is to come, it’s my opportunity.”

Miami also has Deneric Prince on its practice squad who can be called up to the active roster if another tailback is needed.

The Dolphins have also ruled out rookie wide receiver Malik Washington, who is yet to return to practice from a quadriceps injury. Defensive back and special teamer Elijah Campbell popped up on the Wednesday injury report with an Achilles ailment, and he is now questionable for Thursday.

    Hill’s knee procedure?

McDaniel addressed the knee surgery star wide receiver Tyreek Hill alluded to in the police body-cam footage of his Sunday handcuffing outside Hard Rock Stadium .

He called it a “minor procedure that he makes sure that he takes care of and keeps out of compromising positions as best he can control” that occurred in the offseason.

Hill confirmed, when he spoke Wednesday , it was a minor offseason procedure he had on his knee, while in Antigua.

“Just some stem cells injected into my body,” he said. “A lot of people don’t know about it because I just be on the low with it.”

The body-cam video of Sunday’s detainment showed Hill expressing that he was slow to sit on the sidewalk while handcuffed because he had surgery on one of his knees.

    Ramsey, Phillips snap counts

After cornerback Jalen Ramsey and outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips played on snap count limitations Sunday, the Dolphins are preparing for all possibilities, whether they can handle, more, less or the same.

“We’re planning on the grey. We have to plan for uptick, same or downshift,” McDaniel said. “In the short week, that’s what’s tricky. You kind of don’t know until they’re at the stadium.”

Ramsey is nursing a hamstring injury from training camp and Phillips played his first game back from last November’s torn Achilles. Both were said, by McDaniel on Monday, to have exceeded their Sunday snap counts in Sunday’s contested victory. Ramsey went played 41 snaps against the Jaguars and Phillips 33.

Both enter Thursday with no injury designation. Ramsey was upgraded from limited practice participation to full Wednesday, as was offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg (shoulder). Phillips remained limited at Wednesday drills.
