As South Florida wilts in ‘feels-like’ temps as high as 110 degrees, Monday may bring brief relief

As Sunday’s dangerously high “feels-like” heat index puts a sizzling exclamation point on the weekend in South Florida, some brief relief may be on the way Monday, forecasters said.

Temperatures in the low to mid 90s combined with high humidity across the region prompted the National Weather Service Miami to extend its heat warning through Sunday evening.

The weather service predicted “feels-like” temperatures from 105 to 110 degrees in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Residents of Palm Beach County were expected to feel the most heat, as high as 109, on Sunday afternoon.

“These conditions will cause increased risk of heat illness for people outdoors or in non-air-conditioned spaces,” the weather service said Sunday.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected Monday morning, which will lower temperatures slightly, with highs forecast in the upper 80s and a feels-like heat index near 100.

There will be a 60-70% percent chance of precipitation each day through Friday, forecasters said.
