One dead in rural Kansas helicopter crash
SEDGWICK COUNTY —One person is dead following a helicopter crash on Friday in a rural area of northwest Sedgwick County. Just after 8 a.m. first responders were dispatched to the crash in the 5700 block of North 255th Street West, according to a supervisor with Sedgwick County Sheriff's office 911. EMS did not transport anyone else for treatment, according to the supervisor.
Andover Central High School teacher and softball coach dies after battling cancer
ANDOVER, Kan. (KAKE) - The Andover Central High School is mourning the loss of art teacher and softball coach Rita Frakes who passed away on Friday after battling cancer. Andover Central High School remembers Ms. Frakes as, "an amazing art teacher, mentor and friend to students and colleagues alike. Her larger-than-life personality and steadfast positive energy stayed with her, despite the challenges she was facing. She will be dearly missed in our school and Jaguar community."
Lenexa wants to collect 1,000 pounds of used plastic bags to make into bench
The city of Lenexa is looking to get a new public bench through unconventional means — by recycling more than 1,000 pounds of plastic bags. Taking a cue from neighboring cities like Merriam, the city has launched a year-long project where it ask residents to donate plastic bags at three locations in hopes of reaching the magic number of 1,000 pounds, enough to craft a bench.
