Packaging manufacturer Plancon closing Wilson factory, laying off 70
Packaging manufacturer Placon Corp. is closing a plant in Wilson and laying off 70 workers, the company told state officials this week. The Madison, Wisconsin-based company, which makes food containers out of recycled plastic, told the state Department of Commerce on Wednesday that it is closing its 140,000-square-foot facility at 2540 Wilco Blvd. by Aug. 2.

Miller Receives Tidewater Baseball Shrine Recognition from Norfolk Tides
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Tides will induct former Norfolk State athletics director and baseball coach Marty Miller into the Tidewater Baseball Shrine prior to the second game of Friday evening's doubleheader against Jacksonville. Miller will be one of three members of the 2024 Tidewater Baseball Shrine Class, joining Christy Matthewson and Towny Townsend for the festivities. Horses seized from local riding center get new homes
More than 20 horses have new homes after an investigation Thursday at a local riding and training center determined the animals were malnourished and in “poor” condition. The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the U.S. Equine Rescue League, seized 23 horses from the Skyward Pines Equestrian Center at 2940 W. Main Street Extended on Friday.
