SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - It may be July but the South Plainfield community is getting in the Christmas spirit with the annual Christmas in July event.
For the 12th year in a row, the South Plainfield Business Association is hosting Christmas in July and all residents are invited to join in on the festivities.
Taking place at Hamilton Blvd. and South Plainfield Ave., the jolly event is taking place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. Attendees can expect an array of merry features, including food, drinks, games, crafts, and music. Of course, the big guy himself, Santa Claus, will also be there to spread Christmas cheer. Other holiday features include Christmas decorations, wreaths hanging on the light poles, garland adorning the street, and tree lighting at 8 p.m.
“It brings the community together. You see neighbors that you haven’t seen,” Debbie Boyle, Vice President of the South Plainfield Business Association and one of the organizers of the event, said. “Our mayor and council open the festivities with our high school band marching them in.”
Boyle and Cathy Herman, President of the South Plainfield Business Association, also ask vendors to donate an item to the tricky tray; funds raised at the tricky tray are donated to the high school marching band.
Sunday’s event, which has been months in the making, will feature about 40 different vendors, including Scentsy, Tasty Bites by Lauren, Mash Designs, Bright Minds Montessori, Stevie’s Catering, Home for Dogs Rescue, and many more. Attendees can look forward to enjoying fried Oreos and participating in monster truck racing, which is free to all attendees thanks to sponsors.
The South Plainfield Rescue Squad will also be in attendance in case of an emergency and to provide a misting fan and resources to stay cool in the heat.
The rain date for Christmas in July is Sunday, July 28.
