SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - On Wednesday, July 3 rd , the South Plainfield Tiger Sharks hosted the Bridgewater YMCA Blue Dolphins in their first match-up of the season at the South Plainfield Community Pool. Once again, the Tiger Sharks brought a good number of swimmers to the meet with a total of 81, while the Blue Dolphins brought just 39. Even though the number of swimmers was not evenly matched, the Blue Dolphins put forth a good effort during the meet but couldn’t quite match the performance of the Tiger Sharks. The final results of the meet were Tiger Sharks 310, Blue Dolphins 174. Of course, the team celebrated by pushing the coaches into the pool, who didn’t seem to mind the cool down at the end of the meet!

On Saturday, July 6 th , the Tiger Sharks were on the road! The meet was held against the Somerset Hills Blue Dolphins at their pool in Bridgewater. The two teams first had to complete the meet that was paused on June 26 th due to inclement weather. Sadly, despite their best efforts, the Tiger Sharks were not able to rally for a win and ended up losing to the S.H. Blue Dolphins with a score of 248 to 175. After a short break, the two teams moved right into their regularly scheduled meet with the S.H. Blue Dolphins competing with 81 athletes and the Tiger Sharks competing with 72. While the Tiger Sharks gave it their best try, they once again fell to the S.H. Blue Dolphins with a final score of 280 to 199.

The coaches conferred after Saturday’s meet and picked their next round of MVPs. They were Thomas Azar for the 8 and underage group, Austin Kuebler for the 9/10 age group, Logan Celentano for the 11/12 age group, Kennedy Soto for the 13/14 age group and Joshua Chiu (not pictured) for the 15/18 age group.

The Tiger Sharks’ big fundraiser for the season will be their Swim-A-Thon. It will be held on Wednesday, July 17 th at 6:00pm at the South Plainfield Community Pool. Each participating swimmer will pledge to swim a certain number of laps (ie. 40) during the event. Sponsors can either make a Pledge Per Lap (ie. $1 per lap) or make a Flat Donation (ie. $25) to the swimmer. Pledges can be made in cash or check, made payable to SPTS with the swimmer's name included in the Notes section. All pledges must be turned in by Friday, July 19, 2024. Come to the South Plainfield Community Pool on July 17th to sponsor a swimmer and make a purchase from the Concession Stand, which also helps to raise funds for the team.
