Armed robbery reported after escape attempt at South Portland youth prison

South Portland police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred just minutes after an escape attempt was reported at Long Creek Youth Development Center, according to police.

Kevin Gerrish, South Portland deputy chief, said the attempted escape was reported just after 7:30 p.m. Friday. Just a few minutes later, police responded to a report of a strong-armed robbery in the parking lot of 10 Liberty Lane, where two young male suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a white Honda Civic reported stolen with a license plate number of 401BBK.

If you see the car, police are asking people not to approach the vehicle and call 911 immediately.
