Progress being made on Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA childcare expansion

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — The Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA is making progress on its early learning and youth development center .

When complete, the facility will create a more extensive space and add much-needed childcare options for the community. The expansion will include four high-quality and affordable childcare rooms, two flex rooms, as well as an indoor playground.

With a 1,200-square feet expansion, the YMCA plans to create a space that will tend more to the needs of the community and to help more individuals and families.

“We’re gonna have childcare for like 112 kids, which is so desperately needed in this area,” Angie Evans with the YMCA said. “We’re in whats called a childcare desert, which means there are more kids then there are daycare spots.”

The Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA has already raised 3.5 of the $4.5 million needed to complete the project in the next 14 months. It’s set to open in spring 2025.
