Charles graduation rates dipped for Class of 2023
The Maryland State Department of Education released data revealing that overall graduation rate in Charles County dropped slightly but remained ahead of the state average. The four-year graduation rate in Charles public high schools dropped slightly from 92.6% in 2022 to 90.2% in 2023. Leadership at altitude: Top enlisted service member visits 459th Wing
The 459th Air Refueling Wing hosted the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Troy E. Black, for an air refueling orientation flight on March 19. The flight offered Black a firsthand experience of the 459th Air Refueling Wing’s mission, providing a comprehensive view of aerial refueling operations critical to U.S. military efforts. It featured eight F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft from the 112th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, Ohio Air National Guard, refueling from a KC-135 Stratotanker from the 756th Air Refueling Squadron, Joint Base Andrews, Md., underscoring the importance of interoperability and collaboration across different units and geographical locations. Charles sheriff's officers investigate fatal crash in Waldorf
Charles sheriff's officers responded to the area of St. Charles Parkway and Duncannon Road in Waldorf on Wednesday night for the report of a motor vehicle crash. A preliminary investigation showed a passenger car was traveling southbound on St. Charles Parkway on March 27 at 11:17 p.m. when it left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire, a release from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said. There were at least three individuals in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The driver and a passenger in the rear seats were able to get out of the vehicle, but the passenger in the front seat, identified as Jajuan Cobb, age 22, of Accokeek, was killed, the press release stated. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Charles sheriff's officer Walker at 301-609-3251.
