(WWJ) — A Taylor man is behind bars after an argument at a bar in Southfield escalated to gun violence last week.

William Gonzalez Nunez, Jr., was arraigned Saturday on multiple charges, including attempted murder, in connection with a shooting outside Starter’s Bar & Grill on July 17.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office says the 38-year-old Nunez and the victim were both at the bar — near Evergreen and 10 Mile Roads — that night when they got into an argument.

Surveillance video shows Nunez leaving the bar and pulling out of the parking lot shortly before the victim left in his own vehicle, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Nunez allegedly pulled into a side street by the bar and got out of his car, then ran up on the victim and fired several shots into his car. The victim was hit in the chest, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The victim was taken to the hospital, but his condition was not disclosed. Nunez was eventually arrested and taken to the Oakland County Jail, where he remained in custody, as of Monday afternoon.

“The prevalence of gun violence in our community, and across the state and country, is shocking and unacceptable,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said, per a press release. “This incident, like so many instances of gun violence, was completely preventable. Public safety is my number one priority, and we will continue to aggressively prosecute violent crime and acts of gun violence. I am also committed to addressing gun violence as a public health crisis and focusing on prevention to reduce the tremendous toll that gun violence takes on our community.”

Nunez has been charged with assault with intent to murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. Assault with intent to murder is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years and requires DNA to be taken upon arrest. The felony firearm charge carries a mandatory sentence of two years, while the CCW charge carries a punishment of up to five years and/or a fine of $2,500, along with the forfeiture of his weapon.

Nunez’s bond was set at $200,000 cash/surety, 10%, and his next court date has been scheduled for Aug. 2.
