A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck West Texas on Friday morning, sending aftershocks as far as the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The earthquake occurred around 9:30 a.m. in Scurry County, roughly 200 miles west of Fort Worth. This seismic event follows a 4.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the same region earlier in the week. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremors were felt as far away as Durant, Oklahoma, and Georgetown, Texas.

Texoma Drive renovations begin, 1 million-gallon water tower engineering underway
The City Council discussed updates on the current ongoing city projects in town during last week’s meeting. The Texoma Street project construction began last week. Residents may have observed a drone flying over the neighborhood, a tool used by the contractor to obtain footage of the construction area. The water line project will start August 1. Whitesboro City Administrator Julie Arrington said the engineer said the 12-inch water line will possibly be changed into a 16-inch water line.
