When we introduced our reimagined Sunday StarNews back in December, we also re-launched MyReporter – a feature that allows readers to ask us questions and we’ll try to get answers.

We’ve answered more than 30 questions so far on a variety of topics, including updates on development projects, how to protect sea turtles along the coast and how to request a traffic light at a busy intersection.

Today’s MyReporter story is something I’ve always wondered about. What is the difference between a city and a town in North Carolina? How can somewhere like Southport, with about 3,800 residents, be a city yet Leland, with a population of roughly 23,000, be a town?

I always thought cities were larger metropolitan areas in the state. Turns out, that’s not the case at all. Our community engagement editor, Renee Spencer, explains it all in today’s MyReporter story.

Do you have a question you want us to look into? Send an email to myreporter@starnewsonline.com. The best questions are ones you and your neighbors have been wondering about. Also, if we’ve already answered it, we’ll let you know.

I’d also like to point you toward our dining feature in the Sunday newspaper. Each week, reporter Allison Ballard features a local restaurant. Some of these stories have focused on long-time favorites, such as Caprice Bistro and Hieronymus Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar, while others take you inside new spots.

That’s the case with this week’s story, which looks at what Conor and Alyssa MacNair are doing at their Pender County oyster farm. After starting N. Sea Oyster Co. in Hampstead, they’ve since added the Oyster Barn to the headquarters.

They’ve added a chef, wine dinners and more for at their seasonal restaurant. It sounds like a great experience and something worth adding to my summer bucket list.
