    Man pleads guilty, sentenced in fatal Southport hit-and-run

    A Southport man has been sentenced in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in May 2023.

    Anthony Overman Jr., 37, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury/death in Brunswick County Court on Thursday. He was sentenced to 10-21 months in prison and will serve three years of supervised probation immediately following his sentencing, according to a representative from the Brunswick County Clerk of Court's Office.

    The charges pertain to an incident on May 27, 2023. Southport police responded to the 300 block of East 8th Street around 4:15 a.m. to find an unresponsive female lying in the roadway, according to previous StarNews reporting . Officers determined the victim had been struck by a vehicle that left the area. The victim, later identified as Jenny Moyer, was pronounced dead on scene.

    In June 2023, friends of Moyer offered insights into her life and character in an interview with the StarNews .

    Sally Stidham, a friend of Moyer's for nearly 28 years, described her as "the ultimate friend."

    Hank Troscianiec, a friend of Moyer's for nearly 13 years, referred to Moyer as a "fighter" and said she "would do whatever she needed to for her kids." Moyer is survived by her two children.
