Kayse Deann Layfield, 48, of Sparks, Georgia, is facing additional charges after being rearrested following an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Layfield, a former family care counselor, was initially arrested in March for failing to report child abuse while supervising a Taylor County child dependency case.

The new charges stem from Layfield allegedly committing perjury during a child custody hearing.

She was arrested last month by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office for making false statements under oath in an official proceeding.

The FDLE investigation into Layfield’s initial failure to report child abuse was prompted by a referral from the Florida Department of Children and Families. Agents found that Layfield not only neglected to report allegations of sexual abuse involving a child, but also delayed instructing the complainant to report the incident themselves through a hotline.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office (Georgia) assisted in the initial investigation and subsequent arrest in March.

This case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, Third Judicial Circuit.
