PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was hospitalized after she was hit by an SUV near Sparta Tuesday afternoon, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of 10 Mile Road and North Division Avenue in Plainfield Township. Deputies say a silver Lexus SUV driven by a 54-year-old Sparta woman was headed east when she hit a pedestrian.

That pedestrian is a 36-year-old Whitehall woman, according to deputies. The sheriff’s office said she had serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

It’s not clear exactly what led up to the crash.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
