MOORESVILLE – A passionate rescue organization, Piedmont Animal Rescue (PAR) has saved more than 7,200 animals since its inception in 2017. Their motto is, “Where Animals Come First,” and the organizers and volunteers live that motto every day, according to Melissa Shoemaker, the organization’s foster and volunteer coordinator.
NC human trafficking arrest leads to fears of trafficking in other states
ROXBORO, NC (WDBJ) - Police in North Carolina are concerned about human trafficking in surrounding states after the arrest of a New York man. Alfredo Davis, 39, was arrested August 10 in Roxboro for trafficking. Investigators in Roxboro say their investigation began with a 911 call about a suspicious person near a bank. Police were given a vehicle and driver description, and they pulled the driver, Davis, over. Investigators then recovered nearly 40 alleged fraudulent identification cards, with different names, addresses and dates of birth, all containing the photograph of a 65-year old woman who was the passenger in the vehicle. Police seized several thousands of dollars in cash, personal checks alleged to be fraudulent or stolen, and marijuana.
