Each week, NorthJersey.com would like to highlight adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues.

If you foster, work at, or volunteer with a North Jersey animal shelter or rescue and know of some animals who are in need of a loving fur-ever home, please send a photo, description, and adoption information to amwallace@gannett.com to have your adoptable pets featured in the next edition.

This week, we are featuring Jingle and Roland from One Step Closer Animal Rescue (OSCAR) in Sparta.

    Jingle

Jingle is a beagle and rat terrier mix who is 8 years old and 45 pounds. He was surrendered by his owners after six years for becoming aggressive with the husband and wife. He has since been dubbed the Mayor of OSCAR.

At the shelter, Jingle has been very sweet and friendly and has had no issues with any staff or volunteers. He loves the other dogs and being out in the play yard. Although he has lived with children, he is looking for a quiet but active home to live out his golden years.

Jingle has been professionally evaluated. He was good during the evaluation with the trainer and another dog that was brought in. During most of the evaluation he just wanted attention and pets. However, due to his history and how overwhelmed he gets, the trainer recommended that he should be in a home without any children. He would also benefit from additional training as he was not great on leash and the previous owner said that he kept going onto counters and trying to get into stuff. Overall, he was very sweet and affectionate with the trainer, he just lacks real structure and is quite anxious. He will bond quickly with whoever adopts him but will need a lot of structure.

If you are interested in Jingle, you can fill out an application form on the OSCAR website at oscaranimalrescue.org/oscar-1-application.html.

    Roland

Roland is a beagle and labrador retriever mix. He is about 3 or 4 years old and 41 pounds. He was surrendered when his owners decided they did not want a dog anymore.

He has not adapted well to the changes in his young life and will guard his home, person and food so he will not "lose" them again.

Roland needs someone who is an experienced, strong handler who is willing to work with him to overcome his anxiety. He seems to form bonds with women faster than men. A quieter home with low traffic and no children would suit him best.

Roland has so much potential to be a wonderful pet in the right home.

If you are interested in Roland, you can fill out an application form on the OSCAR website at oscaranimalrescue.org/oscar-1-application.html.
