School board OKs 3.71% tax increase
After voters rejected a ballot question seeking approval to raise $1.7 million as a permanent addition to the Byram Township School District budget in April, the Board of Education voted earlier this month to increase the budget by $471, 528. That will raise the local tax levy by 3.71 percent.
Fairfield Introduces 2024 Municipal Budget, a 3.3% Increase Over Previous Budget
FAIRFIELD, NJ -- The Fairfield governing body passed a resolution introducing the 2024 municipal budget at its Monday, July 22 meeting. According to Fairfield Business Administrator James Gasparini, even though inflation is soaring, the 2024 municipal budget will cost the average homeowner an increase of less than $12 a month, or $142.21 for the year. The new local tax rate is .506, an increase of .016 from last year’s rate of .490. The proposed new tax rate, which includes the municipality, schools, county, library and open space is $2.137. MONTVILLE, NJ - The Montville Township High School’s Forensics Team held an outreach program for middle school students, aiming to educate them about speech and debate, as well as raise funds for the high school forensics program. The program allows students the choice to learn about either speech or debate. Speech consists of interpretation and public address. Both of these types of speech have smaller categories, such as humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, declamation, etc. Students who participate in speech either find a speech or write their own, and then memorize and perform it. Verona Community Pool Complex More Accessible for Guests
VERONA, NJ - The Verona Community Pool complex has undergone recent upgrades to make it more accessible. The Township says it has added an accessible pool wheelchair that is available for access to the ramped pool entry. Four wheelchair picnic tables have also been added. Fire breaks out in Chester commercial building
On the morning on July 21, a fire broke out in a commercial building in the area of 39 Elkay Drive in Chester. According to the Sugar Loaf Engine Company, upon their arrival at the scene, the team found a working fire inside the building, soon upgrading the blaze to a second alarm fire.
