First annual Ballons and Tunes Festival lifts off in Sparta

SPARTA (WKBT) -- The first annual Balloons & Tunes Festival kicked off at Memorial Park Friday.

The festival featured vendors, spin art, food, music and six hot air ballons that took flight for an evening ride.  Spectators brought chairs and blankets to watch the show which was followed by a concert by the Dweebs.

The director of Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce says she always wanted to bring a new fest like this to the community.

"Since I started this job, I wanted to bring balloons to Sparta. I've been in the position now for four years, and just the things came together, and I was finally able to make it happen. Just something different, something new, something exciting that Sparta has never seen," says director of Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce, Heidi Prestwood.

The show continues bright and early Saturday morning at 6am for a sunrise flight. It will be followed by an afternoon of vendors and activities.
