School Counselor arrested for failing to report abuse allegations

A counselor at an Upstate school is facing charges after investigators say , she failed to report allegations of abuse. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says 61 year old, Joy Allen a counselor at Clifdale Middle School failed to notify DSS and law enforcement after a student told Allen about being sexually assaulted by another juvenile, in the past.

The student later spoke to a School Resource Officer at Morgan Technology Center, which brought the incident to light.

Further investigation revealed that the victim had been seen at the Children's Advocacy Center, where they confirmed the assault and reiterated that Ms. Allen had been informed.

Allen was interviewed by investigators in late April and admitted to not reporting the allegations. Allen was arrested Wednesday morning and is charged with failure to report child abuse.
