‘Sweet’ dog has spent ‘over half her life’ in SC shelter. She still needs a home

A “sweet” dog has spent most of her life at a South Carolina shelter — and she still needs a home.

“It’s time this girl gets out of the shelter and into her new furever home,” the Spartanburg Humane Society wrote June 30 on Facebook.

Heaven has been at the humane society since 2021, making her one of its longest-ever residents. The shelter hopes the pup will get a new owner in time to enjoy summer activities, such as playing outside and swimming.

“August of this year will put her at the shelter 3 years,” the animal organization wrote. “She’s 4 years old. That puts her here for over half her life.”

Over time, Heaven has become known as a “playful and smart” mixed-breed pup with “so much love to give,” according to the social media post and an online adoption profile.

“She’s a sweet girl,” the shelter wrote. “She just needs time to open up and trust people.”

The shelter in its post didn’t say why it believes Heaven is being overlooked or how she ended up in its care. But a Facebook user said the pup was found as a stray .

“She has her moments of wanting love but then is ready to be left alone lol,” Samie Pix, who identifies as the shelter’s animal care technician and adoption counselor, wrote in December. “But that doesn’t mean her perfect person or family isn’t out there.”

As of July 1, Heaven’s online adoption profile remained active. The shelter said her ideal home would have one to two adults and no other pets.

The humane society didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on July 1. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at spartanburghumane.org .
