    NWS confirms EF-1 tornado touched down in Allegany County. Here's where.

    The National Weather Service Storm Survey Team has confirmed that a tornado struck the towns of Wirt and Friendship in Allegany County on Friday.

    The tornado, rated EF-1, caused damage, particularly to trees.

    Damages from the tornado

    Damage was observed near Clair Carrier Road, where several hardwood and softwood trees were uprooted, according the Weather Service. As the tornado moved northeast, it crossed Burdick Road with minor tree damage before intensifying along County Route 34, causing extensive tree damage in a concentrated area.

    After crossing County Route 34, the tornado briefly lost intensity, with no damage recorded across New York Route 275. It reformed near Wells Road, where several dozen softwood trees were uprooted, and one tree caused minor damage to a residence, the Weather Service said. The tornado weakened as it continued northeast, causing sporadic minor tree damage along East Hill Road and County Route 31 before dissipating in a heavily forested area.
