Scio Post Office still closed after crash. Where PO Box customers can get their mail

The Wellsville U.S. Post Office is stepping up for its neighbors in Scio after a motor vehicle crashed into the Scio Post Office , putting the 4422 W Sciota St. building out of business indefinitely.

Beginning immediately, Scio PO Box customers may pick up their mail at the Wellsville Post Office, 40 E. Pearl St., during regular hours, Wellsville postal officials announced.

Scio customers should use the third window in Wellsville to pick up their mail, according to Samantha Phillips, Wellsville Post Office officer in charge.

No time frame for how long this will continue was mentioned, but Phillips said the Post office is "working on getting (the Scio Post Office) back up and running as fast as possible."

There were no injuries or charges reported in the late Tuesday morning crash.

The Scio Fire Department said a white SUV smashed into the building shortly after 11 a.m., leaving a gaping hole in the brick exterior. Scio 601 along with Scio 1 and personnel responded.

After arriving on scene, Wellsville Rescue was called in to help stabilize the building so the vehicle could be removed.

The driver, a 78-year-old Scio resident, was able to self-extricate. He was evaluated by EMS but did not suffer any injuries, the fire department said.

Crews remained on the scene until about 2 p.m., securing the building and blocking up the damaged wall.

The fire department said the Post Office will be closed to the public until the building is repaired.
