Wellsville General Store & Grill announces closure after sudden death of owner

A popular Wellsville business is closing after the death of its owner.

In a Facebook post, the Wellsville General Store & Grill said Wednesday it was closing until further notice.

In a follow-up message about an hour later, the store announced “with a heavy heart” that store owner Brad Gena died unexpectedly.

According to the store’s statement, “the family decided to keep the restaurant open until the perishables are gone.”

The business announced it was opening at 11 a.m. Thursday and “will be taking cash donations only, no change.”

The 3376 Andover Road business features a full menu with carryout, drive-thru and indoor dining.

The store opened in 2021 and includes convenience store merchandise in addition to food specials and gift certificate giveaways.

The news of Gena's passing prompted an outpouring of condolences on the social media site. An example included a Facebook message that said, "Brad was the best cook and friend and this will be very hard on our community. He will be remembered forever."

Funeral arrangements were not immediately released.
