WIU Summer Camp Shows Off Opportunities for Rural Students
Underserved youth were given an opportunity to develop their interest in enrolling in higher education at Western Illinois University in mid-July. High school students from school districts in Peoria, Monmouth, Beardstown and Macomb attended the Addressing Equity Gaps Among Rural Students summer camp at WIU, a project funded by the Department of Education’s Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development Program (RPED). The camp was held July 16-17.

Established in 2007, the Red Stars were a founding member of the former Women’s Professional Soccer and would later become one of the original eight teams to form the National Women’s Soccer League in 2013. The Red Stars have made the playoffs in six consecutive years from 2015-2020, clinching the team’s first appearance in the NWSL Championship in the 2019 season as well as appearing in the NWSL’s Challenge Cup Final in 2020.

Save-a-lot round up raises several thousand dollars for Kewanee fireworks
Save-a-lot recently turned over the proceeds of a weeks-long round up campaign aimed at raising money for the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce’s Fourth of July fireworks display. In all, $2,500 was raised through customer donations to help offset the estimated display cost of $15,000. A check was presented to Park District Executive Director Andrew Dwyer by Save-a-lot Assistant Store Manager Ben Brackett.
