Kewanee Fire Department Announces Additional Emergency Burn Days
The Kewanee Fire Department has announced additional emergency burn days in the City of Kewanee. The Kewanee Fire Department has scheduled extra burn days for residents to dispose of landscape waste following the recent EF-1 tornadoes. Residents can burn tree limbs and brush on July 27th and 28th, and August 3rd and 4th, if weather permits. Safety guidelines include maintaining fires at a maximum height of four feet and ensuring they are at least 10 feet away from structures. Regular burn rules apply, and all fires must be attended to until they are extinguished. Kewanee Public Works has cleared trees from roadways, allowing roads to be open for travel. Residents are encouraged to take tree branches and limbs to the old Kewanee Hospital site on West Division Street. City officials said it may be months before they can collect all the tree debris from the curb.

West Central High School’s Addie Seitz Leads Illinois to a Win in the Senior League Softball Regionals
Following an all-state softball season in the spring, West Central High School senior-to-be Addie Seitz is playing summer softball for an Illinois team that is currently participating in the Little League Senior Softball Central Region Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. Seitz’s team is currently (2-0) and is tied with a team from Ohio as the only undefeated teams left in the 8-team tournament. She pitched a 4-inning perfect game against Kentucky on Wednesday, winning 16-0. Seitz struck out 7 of the 12 batters she faced. Just as she did during the high school season in the spring, Addie helped herself at the plate, as well, going 2-3 with 5 rbis and blasting a home run. A few linger storms are possible south of I-74 through the morning commute, otherwise conditions will trend dry today. While the sun is set to make a comeback, it may appear filtered at times as smoke from the Canadian wildfires continues to move across the Midwest. A few pockets of patchy fog are also possible this morning. Temperatures will be mild with highs in the mid to lower 80′s. Humidity will rise through the weekend as our next chance for rain arrives Sunday and Monday. Take full advantage of the more mild weather as temperatures in the 90′s along with more humidity will return through much of next week’s forecast.
