Dunlap girls soccer hosts annual alumni game to raise money for Tessa Sutton Foundation
DUNLAP, Illinois (WMBD) – Dunlap girls soccer welcomed back several former players Friday evening as they also raised money for a good cause with their annual alumni game. Participants brought entrance fees along with coach Peter Cenek selling old game jerseys. All proceeds go toward the Tessa Sutton Foundation, named for the late Dunlap player who passed away from cancer in 2023.

Dream Center Peoria gearing up for backpack giveaway
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Dream Center Peoria is making sure students are prepared to go back to school with its annual backpack giveaway. The nonprofit is expected to hand out more than 2,000 bookbags with school supplies. Students can also receive medical and dental exams, haircuts and help with school registration.

WIU Union President Responds to Announcement of Future Layoffs
“This new administration needs to strengthen and guide the university forward instead of gutting the quality of education.”. during the Western Illinois University (WIU) Faculty Senate meeting, Interim President Kristi Mindrup announced that the university intends to layoff an undetermined number of contingent and tenure/tenure track faculty and academic support professionals. Details will not be available until after a scheduled emergency Board of Trustees meeting on August 6. The layoffs will be in addition to the 35 contingent faculty who were laid off in June.

In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
