SPENCER — The NC Museum of Dolls, Toys & Miniatures announced the return of the Barbie Appraisals Plus Identification Workshop, which will be taking place on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will be held at the museum, located at 108 4th St., Spencer.

Last weekend’s event was so successful that Barbie expert Brad Hicks aka “Super Brad” will be returning to the museum. He will join Barbie enthusiasts and collectors again for an engaging and educational workshop. In addition, Hicks will have a special collection of Barbies and rarities for sale.

Hicks, who grew up in Tennessee is a lifelong collector and has been studying the fashion doll since he was 11 years old. Born into a small family in a small town, Hicks learned to be self reliant and a jack-of-all-trades. His dad was a car enthusiast and his mom a doll collector. As a child, Hicks had the best of both worlds: fast cars and fashion dolls.

Hicks fondly recalls his first big doll sale: “My high school class was going to Europe and I wanted to go so I sold a vintage Barbie in order to pay for the trip. At that time there wasn’t a huge focus on collecting vintage Barbie.”

Guests will learn how to identify their own Barbie dolls. Whether you are a seasoned collector or a curious beginner, this workshop is perfect for anyone interested in the history and value of Barbie dolls.

    Event highlights:

    • Barbie identification sessions: Learn how to accurately identify Barbie dolls from different eras, including details about their unique features, clothing and accessories.

    • Appraisals: Bring your own Barbie dolls to be appraised by our onsite expert, Super Brad. Discover the value of your cherished dolls and gain insights into their historical significance.

    • Interactive learning: Participate in hands-on activities and discussions with fellow Barbie enthusiasts and collectors.

    • Expert guidance: Gain knowledge from experienced appraisers and historians who specialize in Barbie dolls.

“I am thrilled to host the Barbie Appraisals and Identification Workshop at the museum again,” Hicks said. “This event offers a wonderful opportunity for Barbie collectors and fans to deepen their understanding of these iconic dolls and connect with others who share a passion for Barbie.”

Admission to the workshop is included with the regular museum entry fee. The cost for verbal appraisals from Brad is $5 for one item or $25 for a whole collection. The collected funds will benefit the museum.

Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot. For more information, contact the museum at 704-762-9359 or info@ncmdtm.org .
