VALLE CRUCIS — The Valle Crucis Conference Center has announced a new trail leading to Crab Orchard Falls at the Valle Crucis Conference Center. The new trailhead is approximately 50 feet from the existing trailhead, and adds a quarter-mile to the distance between the VCCC main campus and Crab Orchard Falls. PEMBROKE — State officials joined the Lumbee Tribe at the unveiling of the Lumbee Historical Marker at the Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex. The marker is one of nine being dedicated in 2024 by the N.C. Senior housing in the works for east Charlotte
Eliza Hammond, a pharmacist with Atrium Health for 16 years, was frustrated with Charlotte’s lack of affordable housing, so she took matters into her own hands. Hammond is working to build a new housing community for senior citizens in east Charlotte. The 40,000-square-foot community will include 32 units and is expected to cost around $9 million. The 1.5 acres of land, purchased by Hammond’s mother during the pandemic, was approved for use as “an age-targeted and income-restricted multi-family residential community” in March 2023 by the city of Charlotte.
