After delays, the City of Madison is nearing the end of its 2022 audit
The city of Madison 2022 financial audit is nearing completion. The audit was delayed due to the implementation of new software from Tyler Technologies and staff turnover. Due to the delay, the Department of Legislative Audit may issue a notice of non-compliance. Municipalities in South Dakota are required to complete financial audits within 18 months of the end of the year. While the City of Madison did not make this deadline on June 30, 2024, all information has been provided to the auditor who is expected to complete the audit report shortly. The City of Madison says they have been actively engaged and cooperative with the Department of Legislative Audit throughout this process.
Madison Black win in 11 innings, Maroon falls to West Central
The Madison Black 16U VFW baseball team won their 2nd game in a row Thursday, but needed 11 innings to do it, with a 9-4 win over Garretson. Madison scored 3 runs in the 1st, thanks in part to a 2 RBI single from Henry Veenhof. Garretson came back to tie the game in the 6th, and both teams scored a run in the 7th. The game then remained tied all the way to the 11th. Madison broke the tie with a bases-loaded walk in the 11th, and Tregg McGillivray broke it open with a 2 RBI single.
Mudcats stop the Broncos streak in Cornbelt League
The Dell Rapids Mudcats offense was held in check for six innings, but eventually the top team in the Cornbelt let loose in a 12-1 win over the Madison Broncos. Dells scored a run in the 1st and 6th innings for a 2-0 lead, as Madison starter Tyler Tappe struck out 7 Mudcats. Madison got their only run of the game on a Dawson Bakker home run in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 2-1. But Dell Rapids finally broke through against Tappe in the 7th, tagging him for three runs in the inning. They added 4 more in the 8th and 3 in the 9th against three Madison relievers.

Good News: Town of Bryant stepping up to improve park
