Vienna Police arrest man who absconded from custody
VIENNA — A Raleigh County man accused of absconding from custody while attending a church service in Parkersburg was apprehended Friday afternoon in Vienna. Gregory Dale Stewart, 61, was an inmate at the Parkersburg Correctional Center, serving a sentence of 10-20 years on two counts of breaking and entering. He received a pass to attend the Cross Church on Market Street and was last seen there at 11:55 a.m. June 30.

Scattered storms move through ahead of cold front
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - We are seeing more showers and storms moving through as a system to our north continues to pass. Precipitation will taper off around midnight as a cold front passes through the valley. Temperatures will fall to about 70 overnight but return to roughly the mid 80s for Saturday. High pressure will build in leading to a sunny weekend. The southerly flow will return on Monday making it feel stick once again.

Much needed water system upgrade coming to Masontown this year
MASONTOWN, W.Va. A fire at the old Masontown School did little damage Wednesday afternoon, but the availability of water to fight the blaze was a concern. In a post on social media, members of the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department said the water system was down for maintenance at the time of the fire, so tanker support was requested. Volunteers from Masontown were able to quickly knock the fire down before tankers arrived.
