The Mingo County shooting victim has been identified by the West Virginia State Police
MINGO COUNTY, W.Va – West Virginia State Police have disclosed the identify of a man who was fatally shot during a heated argument in Mingo County on Friday morning. Charles Speer, 42, of Kermit, was slain at a residence between the Lenore and Naugatuck neighborhoods shortly after 5 a.m., according to a State Police press release.
West Virginia Braces for Overnight Storms as Cold Front Approaches
Charleston, WV – Severe weather continues to threaten parts of West Virginia tonight as a cold front moves through the area. According to the US National Weather Service in Charleston, residents should anticipate spotty showers and storm activity overnight into Saturday morning. Low temperatures will range from the mid-60s to low 70s in the lowlands and mid-60s in the mountains. The severe storm risk remains in effect until the cold front exits by Saturday morning.

Vienna Police arrest man who absconded from custody
VIENNA — A Raleigh County man accused of absconding from custody while attending a church service in Parkersburg was apprehended Friday afternoon in Vienna. Gregory Dale Stewart, 61, was an inmate at the Parkersburg Correctional Center, serving a sentence of 10-20 years on two counts of breaking and entering. He received a pass to attend the Cross Church on Market Street and was last seen there at 11:55 a.m. June 30.
Scattered storms move through ahead of cold front
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - We are seeing more showers and storms moving through as a system to our north continues to pass. Precipitation will taper off around midnight as a cold front passes through the valley. Temperatures will fall to about 70 overnight but return to roughly the mid 80s for Saturday.
