Two Marion Women Charged with Drug Crimes
McDowell County -- July 24, 2024: In Marion on July 18, A McDowell County deputy pulled over a car driven by. Sarah Kirstin Greene for a traffic violation. A Marion Police Department K9 alerted on the car for the presence of drugs inside. Greene did not get a bond because she was already out on bond for other charges. Janet Marie Taylor, of Marion, was also charged with having methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on her. Taylor got a security bond for $5,000.
Texas Rangers Affiliate Change: Hub City Spartan Burgers Debut in 2025 Season
The Texas Rangers have officially announced that their High-A minor-league affiliate will relocate to Spartanburg, S.C. for the 2025 season, with the team named the Hub City Spartan Burgers. This move entails the Hickory Crawdads, the current High-A affiliate, dropping to the Class A level, resulting in the Spartan Burgers playing in the South Atlantic League. The Double-A and Triple-A affiliates of the Rangers, the Frisco Roughriders and Round Rock Express, respectively, will remain unaffected by this change.

Staying Safe During a Nuclear Emergency
There are three nuclear power plants in North Carolina, located in Brunswick, Mecklenburg and Wake Counties. A fourth plant near the NC-SC border, south of Charlotte, is close enough to be taken into our state’s emergency planning as well. Per federal mandate, nuclear plants and those counties within the ten-mile emergency planning zone (EPZ) and the state must have plans in place ready to implement protective actions within the EPZ if there is an emergency within the facility with the potential of a radiation release. Nuclear plants have many safeguards in place to prevent such events, but it is important to know what to do in the unlikely instance that a radiation release emergency occurs. That goes for both emergency managers and the general public.
