Video – Owl Attacks DNF! – Decorah North Bald Eagle Nest

Just the other night both eagles were sleeping on a branch at the nest after a long days work nest building. All of the sudden out of nowhere a barred owl came swooping in and dug its claws in on the female eagle(top middle of photo). Much to her surprise she started calling and looking around trying to figure out what just happened.

This viscous attack continued for several minutes on both eagles. The next morning I just had to check on our bald eagles and they looked to be doing fine. No signs of any wounds or damage to either one. Unfortunately it's common for owls to attack other predator birds such as bald eagles. They are primarily doing it to defend their territory and ward away any threats from taking their offspring.
