Independence Day celebrations from Riverfront Park to Boulder Beach

SPOKANE, Wash. -- People across the city are enjoying a sunny, beautiful Fourth of July in Spokane.

In Riverfront Park, the Idaho Central Credit Union is hosting a carnival with fun, games, live music and rides for the whole family.

The carnival will run through Sunday evening.

If you're looking for something a little more mellow, our area parks and rivers are a great place to celebrate this weekend.

Some people found their way to Boulder Beach along the Spokane River for the holiday.

"Honestly, we are chilling today," said beachgoers Michelle and Amy. "Our plan is to go out on the water, have a few snacks, take some time to ourselves and just soak it all in."

In addition to the daytime activities, many are excited for nightfall so they can enjoy some fireworks.

However, it is illegal to buy or light personal fireworks within Spokane City limits and much of Spokane County.

"With the burn restrictions that are in place, the weather that's here, there are so many devastating consequences that can occur," said Spokane Fire Chief Julie O'Berg. "We all want to celebrate, but we really want you to celebrate safely."

Fire Marshalls are patrolling the county, searching for anyone lighting off personal fireworks. People who do so could face a $500 fine.

So, instead of setting off the fireworks yourself, consider checking out one of the area's official firework shows.

    Firework showtimes:

    Riverfront Park: 10 p.m.

Liberty Lake Pavilion Park: 10 p.m.

    Downtown Coeur d'Alene: 9:45 p.m.

    Northern Quest: 10 p.m.
