'Let's get down to business.' Spokane GOP delegates say party is unified like never before following Former President Trump's attempted assassination

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Numerous delegates from Washington and Idaho are at the Republican National Convention this week to help determine what needs to be done to prepare for the upcoming primary elections.

This comes at a defining moment in the party's history, with unity across the party like never seen before.

"Coming into the convention, a lot of people were a little nervous on what the energy would look like after the attempted assassination of President Trump," said the Spokane GOP Vice Chair Lyle Dach.

Two days before the RNC began, Former President Donald Trump was shot at a political rally in Pennsylvania.

"People are just excited to support President Donald Trump for the next term in office," Dach said.

The RNC exists to express policy goals and find a consensus in the party's mission.

"While maybe our local platforms are a bit more descriptive, the overlay of them is perfect synergy," said Spokane GOP member Rob Linebarger. "This party is unified like nothing I've ever seen."

Vice President Kamala Harris, however, challenges that unity.

"You cannot claim to be for unity if you try to overturn a free and fair election and threaten to terminate the United States Constitution," Vice President Harris said, citing the January 6 insurrection after the results of the last presidential election.

Local GOP delegates said the collaborative energy of the RNC is fueling future campaigning in Spokane.

"I think that's the purpose is to send us all back energized," Linebarger said. "And you know what? Now let's get down to business and do the hard work of winning this election."

Linebarger and Dach both spoke on issues like the homelessness crisis in Spokane and the challenges related to the economy and the border. They did not speak in detail about how they plan to address those policy areas.
